Bouygues Construction has signed a strategic partnership agreement with French robotics firm Innodura to accelerate the use of advanced automation on building sites.
The partnership will focus on easing the physical burden of construction work and improving site productivity by developing robotic solutions tailored for repetitive or hazardous tasks.
Lyon-based Innodura, founded 13 years ago, develops robotics and computer vision technology using AI and 3D imaging. Its systems allow robotic arms to detect and adapt to complex environments in real time, enabling greater flexibility and autonomy on live construction sites.
The agreement builds on four years of collaboration between the two firms on pilot automation projects.
These have included a tunnel inspection robot and a drilling machine designed for thermal insulation installations. Bouygues said the latter could help speed up large-scale energy-efficiency retrofit programmes.
The deal will see the creation of a dedicated multidisciplinary team and a robotics lab within Innodura’s facility, with links to Bouygues’ innovation platform, Scale One.
Bouygues Construction deputy chief executive Jean-Philippe Trin said the collaboration marked a key step in the company’s drive for “useful innovation”.
He said: “The technologies developed with Innodura will speed up the deployment of advanced robotics on our sites, improving working conditions and attracting new talent to the industry.”
The partnership is also intended to address industry-wide concerns around labour shortages and poor site conditions, by offering new tools aligned to modern safety standards and site constraints.
