Motive launches AI Dashcam Plus to improve road safety

Share

Safety on the roads is essential, and businesses can benefit from AI-powered driver safety solutions that detect and respond in real time, especially as daily UK road incidents, rising costs and evolving regulations add more pressure on vehicle-reliant businesses.

For industries such as construction, energy, manufacturing, field services, food and beverages, and logistics, the stakes are high. Operating large fleets of vehicles and equipment can mean a single incident can cause injuries, downtime, compliance risk and reputational damage. Yet without real-time visibility, many still manage safety reactively, addressing incidents after they happen instead of preventing them.

AI capabilities and hands-free communication come together into one smart device

Introducing Motive’s new AI Dashcam Plus, designed to reduce collisions and improve safety in real time

This is where accurate, real-time AI becomes essential to allow drivers to see more, act faster and prevent collisions.

Motive, the AI platform for physical operations, recently launched AI Dashcam Plus, which brings advanced AI capabilities, hands-free communication and enterprise-grade reliability into one device. Built with Edge AI, an on-device AI that processes video and sensor data directly inside the vehicle, the system can detect risk in milliseconds, enabling faster and more reliable decisions.

Unlike traditional dashcams that simply record events, Motive’s AI Dashcam Plus is designed to actively prevent collisions by identifying unsafe behaviours as they happen. Powered by a Qualcomm next-generation processor, it delivers three times more AI processing power than other leading dashcams and is designed to run more than 30 high-precision AI models simultaneously, detecting unsafe behaviours such as fatigue, lane swerving, mobile phone usage, forward collision warning, distraction and close following with greater accuracy.

Motive also plans to launch stereo vision technology, using two forward-facing lenses that work together to create human-like depth perception. This aims to allow the AI to better understand how quickly vehicles or objects are approaching and to improve the accuracy of real-time alerts such as forward collision warning, lane swerving and close following. Expected in late 2026, these are designed to give drivers earlier, more reliable warnings to help reduce the risk of collisions.

The high-resolution 1440p zoom lens, featuring a narrow field of view, is designed to clearly capture number plates from approximately 12m away, even in challenging conditions such as rain or snow. Expected for release in mid-2026, Automated Licence Plate Recognition is built to automatically capture licence plates, vehicle make and model, to provide critical evidence in hit-and-runs, thefts and other incidents, with the ultimate goal of helping businesses resolve cases more quickly and to protect drivers.

AI Dashcam Plus is also designed to offer live, hands-free two-way calling so managers can check in with drivers during severe weather, fatigue or unexpected delays. Drivers would be able to ask for help without taking their hands off the wheel.

Why accurate, edge AI matters for driver safety

Preventing collisions in real time depends on accuracy. In safety-sensitive environments, false alerts erode driver trust, while missed risks can have life-changing consequences. Motive has spent years developing AI technology that is purpose-built for physical operations and where there is no room for error.

Motive’s AI is powered by scale. With data from more than one million vehicles and assets on the platform, combined with continuous human validation, Motive’s AI seeks to become more accurate over time. As such, its impact extends beyond real-time alerts. Motive can help safety managers coach more effectively, reinforce safe driving habits and build a stronger safety culture across fleets. Instead of spending hours combing through footage, teams can focus on the specific behaviours that reduce collisions and improve performance.

Proven financial impact for customers

On average, customers that used Motive’s AI Dashcam reduced collisions by 80 per cent, based on an internal study of those with at least 90 per cent adoption for at least 12 months. The top quartile of surveyed customers also reported seeing a reduction in accident-related costs by 63 per cent and significant savings in insurance and downtime.

“Within just 10 days of enabling Motive’s AI Dashcam Plus in-cab alerts, we reduced risky driving events from 1,200 to 400 – a 67 per cent reduction,” said Morgan Bedford, country business and fleet manager at Chyone Logistics. “Switching to Motive has been night and day. The AI-powered detection and real-time alerts have helped us quickly identify and address unsafe behaviours, while also improving fuel efficiency by giving us clear visibility into idling and fuel use. The platform is saving us hundreds of pounds each week.”

Making safer, smarter operations a reality

As physical industries modernise, AI is quickly becoming a new safety standard and a practical necessity. Accurate AI that operates in real time is now an essential for organisations responsible for keeping drivers, communities and operations safe.

Motive supports nearly 100,000 customers, including global businesses Kone, Komatsu and Maersk, helping them manage drivers, vehicles and equipment in one integrated platform. AI Dashcam Plus is the latest in Motive’s mission to empower the people who run physical operations with tools to make their work safer, more productive and more profitable.
