A MAJOR car manufacturer has pulled its final electric car from the UK market.

The SUV has been axed after just three years, leaving the brand with no electric vehicles (EVs) for sale in Britain.

Honda has officially discontinued the e:NY1 EV after less than three years on the UK market.

The Chinese-built model struggled to generate organic sales, with just 7,122 sold across the UK since its launch, and many at discounted rates.

Honda confirmed to The Sun that the EV “is entering the final stage of its model lifecycle”.

“Honda will no longer take new orders for e:Ny1 once remaining stock is sold,” a rep revealed.

“Some retailers do still have stock, but supply is very limited which is why it is no longer showing on the Honda configurator.”

And the model is also missing from the online configurator in other European markets, including Germany and Spain.

And given carmakers in the UK are legally bound by the ZEV mandate to hit an electric car sales ratio of 33% this year, Honda won’t be without an EV for long.

The brand is set to launch the Super-N electric city car in July, it will be available for less than £20,000.

However it will have a range limited to just 128 miles.

Last month, Honda axed its 0-Series SUV and saloon months before production was to start, citing the US government’s U-turn on climate change obligations.

It also scrapped the Afeela electric premium brand developed with Sony, as the range was set to use the 0-Series as a foundation.

Speaking about the latest developments in the EV market, Toshihiro Mibe, Honda President and CEO, said: “During the past few years, our business environment has drastically changed at a speed far exceeding our projection.”
