Fans of car boot sales have long debated online which event reigns supreme across the country, and one particular sale has repeatedly claimed the top spot.
Car boot sales remain a beloved British institution, drawing crowds eager to snap up bargains on everything from homewares and vintage clothing to vinyl records and beyond.
A fixture of British culture for generations, they continue to thrive to this day with no indication of losing their appeal any time soon.
For those seeking the finest car boot sale in the UK, many would point you firmly in the direction of Leicester. Indeed, it has been crowned the very best by the AA.
Croft Car Boot Sale is held on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays, boasting around 100 sellers and an abundance of bargains for eager visitors. Originally established as a family business in the 1970s, it has expanded considerably over the decades.
Hailed as a “bargain hunter’s dream”, its growth has been driven purely by word of mouth and customer loyalty, cementing its status as one of the largest car boot sales in the region.
Food options are also on hand, alongside activities for children, meaning the whole family can make a proper day of it, weather permitting. Entry for adults is just £1, while children get in free.
For prospective sellers, entry for cars and 4x4s is priced at £7, while small vans cost £10, and large vans cost upwards of £15, according to the car boot sale’s website.
Alongside on-site catering facilities, there’s a bouncy castle, merry-go-round and quad bikes available for younger guests.
The market has garnered excellent feedback online from past attendees.
One TripAdvisor reviewer said: “Having been several times this season, this is without doubt the largest and best run in the area. Held on a flat level field with disabled parking close to the gate. The staff have been helpful by carrying several heavy items I have purchased to my car, they are always polite, and nothing is too much trouble. Catering is fantastic with a menu to suit all tastes.”
Another visitor added: “Extremely well-run and organised car boot sale. Good food vans and a great coffee van. Clean toilet building. Reasonable admission price. Probably the biggest car boot sale locally.”
A third reviewer noted: “This is a great carboot. Much bigger than any other you will find in Leicestershire. You have a good mix of regular traders and people clearing their own homes. The entrance fee is very affordable, either as a buyer or seller.”
While it secured the title of Britain’s finest car boot sale according to the AA and numerous social media commentators, bargain hunters across other parts of the country have plenty of excellent alternatives to explore.
Based on the AA’s rankings, Britain’s second-best car boot sale can be found at Measham Car Boot in Measham, Leicestershire.
The bronze medal position is claimed by Norcross Car Boot in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire. The list also features Norcross Car Boot Sale, Furnace End Car Boot, Ashley Health Car Boot and Bolton Car Boot.
