Equans UK & Ireland has acquired highways technology specialist Mway Communications as it seeks to expand its capabilities on the Strategic Road Network.
Mway employs about 100 people and generates annual revenue of £26m, according to Equans. The value and financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The company works for National Highways and tier one contractors, providing technology and engineering services across the Strategic Road Network.
Its services include technology deployment, electrical engineering, street lighting, traffic signals, inductive loop installation and highways civil engineering.
Equans said the acquisition would add expertise in connected infrastructure, operational technology and communications networks to its existing digital infrastructure, energy, engineering and asset-management operations.
Mway managing director Stephen Crawford and relationship director Lee Day have joined Equans as part of the deal.
Equans UK & Ireland divisional chief executive James Graham said Mway had developed relationships with customers across the Strategic Road Network.
Crawford said joining Equans would give Mway access to greater scale and additional capabilities while retaining its existing expertise.
Equans did not disclose Mway’s profitability, the acquisition price or the completion date of the transaction.
In July, Equan’s annual accounts showed that the Bouygues-owned refurbishment and maintenance specialist posted a pre-tax profit of £3.8m for the 12 months ended 31 December 2025, compared with a £28.9m loss the year before.
