Fortinet has joined the UK Government’s Software Security Ambassadors Scheme, supporting efforts to encourage secure-by-design practices across the software industry.
Led by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), the scheme brings together organisations to promote the UK’s Software Security Code of Practice and encourage its adoption.
Supporting the Software Security Code of Practice
The Code sets out 14 principles for making security central to how products are designed, developed and maintained. As an ambassador, Fortinet will share experience in secure product development and responsible vulnerability disclosure, with the aim of supporting wider use of secure-by-design approaches and informing future policy improvements.
“Building more resilient digital infrastructure starts with making security fundamental to how software is designed and developed,” said Dr Carl Windsor, CISO at Fortinet. He adds, “The Software Security Ambassadors Scheme creates an important opportunity for government and industry to work together to raise the bar for software security across the UK. Fortinet looks forward to sharing the lessons we have learned from securing our own products with the government to help turn strong security principles into practices that organisations can put into action.”
Fortinet said its participation builds on its engagement in the UK and its commitment to strengthening cyber resilience. The company has offices in London, Manchester and Glasgow, and said it is investing in people, partnerships and expertise to support customers and partners and contribute to the UK’s cybersecurity sector.

Future policy improvements
The Software Security Code of Practice sets out fourteen principles designed to make security a core part of how products are designed, built and maintained. As a Software Security Ambassador, Fortinet is committed to supporting these principles, sharing practical lessons from its experience in secure product development and responsible vulnerability disclosure to support wider adoption of secure-by-design and help inform future policy improvements.
“Building more resilient digital infrastructure starts with making security fundamental to how software is designed and developed,” said Dr Carl Windsor, CISO at Fortinet.
