Ofcom is investigating X, owned by Elon Musk, over Grok AI chatbot generating sexualised deepfake images, including of children, possibly breaching UK online safety rules.
UK media regulator Ofcom on Monday launched a formal investigation into X, owned by Elon Musk, over the misuse of its AI chatbot Grok’s image generation feature to create sexualised deepfake content.
In a statement, Ofcom said it had received “deeply concerning reports” that the Grok AI chatbot account on X was being used to generate and circulate undressed images of individuals. The regulator said such content could amount to intimate image abuse or illegal pornography.
Ofcom also raised alarm over reports that the tool had been used to create sexualised images of children, warning that this may constitute child sexual abuse material.
The investigation will examine whether X has breached UK online safety rules by failing to prevent the creation and spread of illegal and harmful content through its AI-powered features.
