ndonesia and the United Kingdom are upgrading their bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to London, a move aimed at deepening cooperation in defense and security, economic growth, people-to-people exchanges and climate action.

Economic growth will be a central priority of the partnership, UK Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey said in a video statement from London, describing the initiative as part of broader efforts to foster “a more peaceful and stable world”.

Speaking on Monday evening ahead of Prabowo’s scheduled meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Jermey reiterated that the UK continues to view Indonesia as an “absolutely essential partner” to the long-term prosperity of both countries.

As of the time of writing, President Prabowo had met with PM Starmer at 10 Downing Street, but no official statement was released regarding the outcome of the meeting.

In his first overseas trip of the year, Prabowo arrived in London late on Sunday. He is also scheduled to meet King Charles III before flying to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum (WEF).
