A CHINESE car giant has announced plans to open its European headquarters in the UK.
Car manufacturer Chery is planning to establish a new centre in Liverpool, delivering a welcome boost to the local economy.

The announcement was made during a trade visit to China by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Liverpool City Council described the move as “one of the most significant projects” for the city’s advanced manufacturing base in recent years.
Council leader Liam Robinson said it represented a “huge opportunity” for Liverpool and the wider region.
Robinson said the decision “recognises our strengths” and “puts Liverpool at the forefront” of advanced manufacturing.
Founded in 1997, Chery is the parent company of global brands Omoda and Jaecoo.
While no firm details have been confirmed on when construction will begin or where the headquarters will be located, it is thought the development will create hundreds of jobs for the local economy.
Chery is also thought to be close to agreeing a deal with Jaguar Land Rover that would allow them to build their motors in the UK.
The two companies already have an established relationship through a joint venture established in 2021.
Jaguar Land Rover stand to benefit hugely from the deal after being ravaged by a cyber attack that forced production to stop for more than five weeks in 2025.
This move seeks to strengthen UK-China trade ties.
