A popular bar chain and restaurant has closed one of its sites in a UK seaside city. The Slug and Lettuce in Bournemouth shut on Friday following eight years on Old Christchurch Road in the coastal Dorset region. A spokesperson for the business said: “Sadly, we’re saying goodbye to our beloved Slug and Lettuce Bournemouth on February 27.

“We’ve had the best time serving up your favourite sips and tasty dishes, enjoying bottomless brunches and celebrating unforgettable moments together. Thank you for being such a special part of our journey.”

The Bournemouth restaurant became Slug and Lettuce’s second branch in the city when it opened in 2018 as part of a £390,000 investment.

The chain’s other site on Richmond Hill will not be impacted by the change and will continue operating as usual.

The Old Christchurch Road venue has a Google rating of 4.5, with recent visitors praising it as a “lovely pub” with “brilliant atmosphere and service”.

One person wrote: “Staff are absolute gems, very friendly and helpful and very welcoming. Place is clean [as] a whistle and atmosphere is great due to how lively the staff are and how hard they work.

“I’d give 10 stars if I could.”

Slug and Lettuce, which has around 77 branches around the UK, has shut a string of other locations in recent months as part of a restructuring strategy.

Among the recent closures were its Brentwood site, which was wound up in August 2025, and a restaurant in Westcliff-on-Sea which closed its doors in December.
