A CHINESE car giant has revealed it will install hundreds of “game changing’ EV chargers in the UK.
The new chargers can add 250 miles of range to EVs in just five minutes.

BYD, which has overtaken Tesla as the biggest EV seller in the world, has announced the arrival of its 1,000kW ultra-rapid “flash chargers”.
The Chinese firm’s devices are twice as powerful as Tesla’s most recent V4 Supercharger, which can only charge up to 500kW and cover 172 miles in 15 minutes.
The groundbreaking gadgets will initially be available at BYD’s growing network of dealerships in the UK, which now has over 125 showrooms.
However, BYD is considering other partnerships and locations to make the chargers accessible where they are most needed.
Bono Ge, BYD’s country manager, told PA: “The flash charging network will continue to grow into the future, but we need to cover a certain network size on a global scale before we can cover more of the UK.
“We believe 300 units is the right volume to start with before we see more vehicles utilise the technology.
“In order to grow from 300 units, we need to check our utilisation for the current public charging network, because we need to make sure we get the charging price to a reasonable level, and not to make it more expensive for the consumer.”
The flash chargers are a component of BYD’s Super e-Platform, which integrates new battery and electric motor technology with the gadgets.
Older EVs should be able to charge approximately 20 to 30 percent faster than usual using one of the flash chargers, in addition to adding 1.2 miles of range per second to the newest models.
Denza, a premium BYD sub-brand that will be available in the UK this year, is the first new model that can make use of these amazing charging speeds.
The Denza Z9GT EV employs latest “Blade” battery technology which is compatible with the flash chargers.
