New budget car brand rivalling Jaecoo officially launches in UK as it throws open doors to 9 dealerships

A NEW Chinese car company hopes to get a strong foothold in the UK market with plans to open nine dealerships.

This car brand has proven popular in China over the years and hopes to hit its targets of one million overseas sales by 2030.

Aion is set to be the latest Chinese brand to join the UK market, launching a new vehicle this week.

The budget car brand said from June 1 its retail partners would be opening across the UK and that the new Aion V electric car would be available immediately.

There will be a total of nine showrooms in cities across the UK, including Slough, Leeds, Newcastle, Winchester and Cardiff.

Aion’s flagship vehicle will retail from £36,450 and it boasts an impressive 317-mile battery range and rapid charging speeds, going from 30 to 80 per cent in under 20 minutes.

The car company has said that it has optimised the vehicle for the UK driving experience, noting special calibration and suspension for British roads.

Aion will also be teaming up with GAC International and Jameel Motor to bring more Chinese vehicles to UK streets.

Managing director of Aion Auto UK, Jon Wakefield, spoke of the partnership and said: “After many months of hard work behind the scenes, this event was a true celebration of everything our collaboration has achieved so far.

“[This marks] our bold first steps as we set the new standard for car ownership in the UK.

“GAC’s incredible engineering and production expertise provides us with world-class AION cars, and Jameel supports us with extensive experience of launching brands in new markets.

“Backed by these two powerhouses, Aion is all set for a successful launch and long-term sustainable growth in the UK market.”
