Dental group PortmanDentex has announced a two‑year partnership with Heidi Health, marking one of the largest deployments of clinical AI in dentistry across the UK and Ireland to date.
Under the agreement, Heidi’s clinical scribe and other digital tools from the firm’s AI Care Partner solution will be deployed across PortmanDentex’s practices and community of dental professionals in the UK and Ireland.
AI clinical scribes – also known as ambient voice technology – listen to consultations and generate structured notes and letters that clinicians can review and finalise, reducing the time spent on documentation.
Dr Tom Kelly, chief executive and co‑founder of Heidi, said: “Our partnership with PortmanDentex shows what it looks like to put AI to work in a way that is clinically grounded and genuinely useful for clinicians day‑to‑day.
“By embedding Heidi’s ambient clinical AI across one of the UK’s largest dental groups, we are helping to give clinicians back time and headspace, improve the quality and consistency of records, and support a more sustainable way of working.
“The pace of adoption we have seen already, combined with the feedback from PortmanDentex clinicians and the measurable impact from practices already using Heidi, gives us real confidence that ambient clinical AI can play a central role in the digital transformation of dentistry across the UK.”
Heidi’s AI Care partner solution is designed to sit alongside clinicians, automating tasks such as clinical documentation, evidence search, and follow-up communications.
A pilot of Heidi across selected PortmanDentex practices in 2025 showed strong clinician engagement and measurable efficiencies in record keeping and admin time.
Around 60 new clinicians across the group’s practices are going live with Heidi’s solution each month.
Cathal Hayes, head of clinical transformation and strategy at PortmanDentex, said: “We are committed to transforming patient care through innovation that delivers meaningful, measurable impact.
“Our partnership with Heidi marks a major step forward in harnessing clinical AI, supporting our clinicians by streamlining administrative tasks, improving efficiency in record keeping, and enhancing how dental care is delivered across the UK and Ireland.
“By freeing up clinicians’ time and improving the quality and consistency of clinical notes, we can ensure even greater focus on what matters most – our patients.”
Heidi, founded in Australia, is used by more than 60% of NHS GPs to undertake tasks, such as drafting referral letters and letters to patients based on consultations.
In October 2025, the firm announced the closing of a $65 million (£48m) Series B funding round, which will be used to help it expand globally.
The funding takes Heidi’s latest value to $465m (£346m) and brings its total funding raised to nearly $100m (£74m).
