Mark Zuckerberg is building an AI CEO agent, people say even CEOs may be replaced now

You need to use AI at work – this is something we all have likely heard in the past few months as companies invest more in AI integration. However, it appears AI is not just mandatory for entry or mid-level workers. Rather, even CEOs will have no choice but to embrace AI in their everyday workflow. Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly testing an AI CEO agent that is supposed to help him at this job.

As per a report by the Wall Street Journal, Mark Zuckerberg is building an AI agent that is meant to assist the CEO. The model is currently in a training phase. Yet it can reportedly help Zuckerberg quicker access to information than the time it would normally require going through several layers of staff.

Interestingly, Mark Zuckerberg may not be the only top tech executive who understands the power of AI even in a company’s leadership. During the India AI Impact Summit in February, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman claimed that in the future AI “would be capable of doing a better job being the CEO of a major company than any executive.”

Some users on social media joked that with AI CEO agents, even CEOs of tech companies were no longer safe from being replaced with AI.

Users believe that AI may even replace CEOs now.

Mark Zuckerberg wants Meta to go all-in on AI

Zuckerberg is pushing for greater AI adoption in Meta. The report states that the company is using AI to accelerate workflows and creating a more streamlined organisation structure.

The Meta CEO himself has started to spend more time coding with AI tools. During an earnings call in January, Mark mentioned that the company could get a lot more productivity by using AI tools. Zuckerberg explained, “We’re investing in AI-native tooling so individuals at Meta can get more done. We’re elevating individual contributors and flattening teams.” He added, “If we do this, then I think that we’re going to get a lot more done and I think it’ll be a lot more fun.”

As per the report, Meta has an internal message mode where employees share new use cases and projects built with AI tools.

Meta employees are using personal AI assistants like My Claw, which can access chat logs and work files and communicate with colleagues or their agents on their behalf. Another tool, Second Brain, developed by a Meta employee using the Claude AI model, can index and query project documents and is described internally as an AI chief of staff.

Meta may layoff 15,000 employees amid rising AI costs

The tech giant is reportedly planning to layoff 20 per cent of its global workforce, roughly accounting for over 15,000 employees. Meta has been spending billions on AI. The company recently acquired Moltbook – the AI only social media platform where humans are banned from posting – and Manas AI – a Singapore-based startup that produces personal AI agents.

Meta hopes to bolster its Superintelligence Labs (MSL) with these acquisitions with a focus on AI agents. The Meta Superintelligence Labs is led by Alexandr Wang, who Meta appointed to lead the division after spending $14.5 billion to acquire his startup Scale AI.

Though MSL’s first AI model, Avocado, is said to be delayed after it failed to meet internal tests.

Meta recently pulled back on the Metaverse project for VR, stating that it would not build any more games or give updates to VR users on Horizon Worlds. Though after user feedback, the company insisted that it would not completely shut down the platform for VR. Meta’s Reality Labs division, that developed Horizon Worlds, is said to have lost over $80 billion in half a decade.
