According to a report by The Information, Anthropic and Samsung are in the early stages of negotiating a deal in which the Korean tech giant will be tasked with manufacturing Anthropic’s custom AI chips.

Samsung may manufacture Anthropic's custom AI chips

It seems like the demand for semiconductors as a whole, mainly fueled by the rise of AI, has forced many companies to look beyond TSMC for chip suppliers. Right before the AI boom, Samsung and Intel were having trouble with their chip businesses, but the latest developments in the industry have been favorable for the two companies. So much so that Apple is once again considering Intel as a chip supplier, and Samsung is also reportedly in talks with Apple.

Anthropic assured its current partners that its data centers will still rely on Amazon’s Titanium chips, Google’s tensor processing units (TPUs) and Nvidia’s GPUs for the foreseeable future, but it still needs to develop custom hardware to fuel its computational power and growth. OpenAI, for example, is in talks with Broadcom for the very same thing.
