UK and India must shape AI together, says Kanishka Narayan

Share

In an exclusive conversation with India Today, UK AI Minister Kanishka Narayan highlighted the strengthening technological partnership between India and the United Kingdom. Narayan, who moved from Muzaffarpur to the UK at age 12, emphasised that both nations are aligned in shaping artificial intelligence through human-centric values. He stated, ‘The power that the UK and India have together to shape AI and technology in light of our values, in light of what is right versus what is wrong, is extremely powerful.’ The Minister discussed the importance of ‘strategic leverage’ over isolated sovereignty, suggesting that mutual interdependence among like-minded democracies is the future of global AI stacks. He also addressed online safety, citing the joint stance against explicit AI-generated content on platforms like Grok as a successful regulatory intervention. Narayan concluded by noting that the India-UK Free Trade Agreement includes a distinct chapter on innovation, paving the way for joint research centres and bilateral R&D collaboration.
