The expanded agreement follows around two years of negotiations and represents a deepening of the relationship between the two businesses, The Caterer reported.

The first revamped locations are expected to open later this summer, with menus set to include freshly baked goods and handmade pizzas.

The Oxford Street flagship will also feature a new Benugo-operated restaurant on the fifth floor, with refurbishment work across six initial sites expected to begin in May.

All 32 upgraded locations are scheduled for completion by 2027, although details of the remaining stores have not yet been confirmed.

Katie Papakonstantinou, John Lewis’ director of services and hospitality, said the changes would deliver “a fresh and exciting John Lewis hospitality experience” that customers are set to enjoy.

The menu will reportedly use locally-sourced ingredients, with Papakonstantinou adding “our plans look amazing”.

Ben Warner, founder of Benugo, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our longstanding partnership with John Lewis, and we’re excited to be growing it to create an exciting new brand.”

He added: “As we expand our work together, we’ll be working closely with the partners, sharing our focus on training and experience so the teams feel supported and confident to deliver the warm, welcoming hospitality that both Benugo and John Lewis are known for.”
