A pedestrian has tragically died following a “serious collision” on a major UK motorway, police have confirmed. West Mercia Police were called to the westbound carriageway between junction 3 and 2 at around 10.15pm on Thursday evening.
The pedestrian was tragically struck by a silver Vauxhall Insignia car and sadly died at the scene. Police say enquiries are ongoing to confirm his identity. The M42 southbound in Worcestershire remains closed between J3 and J2 while investigative work is carried out. The carriageway is expected to be closed for several more hours and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes. Diversions are in place.
All lanes have re-opened on the northbound carriageway, however it way may be subject to temporary closures throughout the day, warns the police.
Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion symbol on road signs:
- Exit M42, southbound, at J3 – take 1st exit onto A435, southbound.
- Continue on A435, southbound, to A435/A4023 interchange.
- At A435/A4023 interchange, bear left onto link road, onto A4023, westbound.
- Continue on A4023, westbound, to A4023/A441 grade- separated junction.
- Exit A4023, westbound, at A4023/A441 grade – separated junction – turn right (3rd exit), onto A441, northbound.
- Continue on A441, northbound, to A441/M42 J2.
- At A441/M42 J2, turn left (1st exit), onto M42, southbound.
