A major car shop is set to shut in a blow for a UK seaside town. It has been confirmed the store, which has been open for 16 years, will close for good on Friday, September 25.
The Halfords store at North Norfolk Retail Park in Cromer, Norfolk, has offered locals car and bike maintenance services since 2010. However, the 25,000 sq ft shop will close its doors later this month, meaning the people of Cromer will have to travel to Norwich or Dereham, both around 30 miles away, for their closest Halfords. While the reason for the closure is unknown, the company has informed staff they will be offered roles at nearby branches where possible.
A Halfords spokesperson said: “We are supporting affected colleagues and offering opportunities at nearby stores where possible. We are proud to have served the Cromer community for more than 16 years and thank our customers for their support.”
Cromer residents have since spoken out about the closure and the wider situation in their town. Many agree there are now a number of closed shops across the area.
Sandra Carpenter said on Facebook: “So many empty shops now in Cromer…such a sad sight for visitors and locals alike. Only Dudley’s behind the church, Halfords soon to leave… We are not the only town in crisis either… the Government need to do something to stimulate growth soon!!!”
A second resident agreed on social media: “Halfords confirming closure now, becoming a ghost town up that area.”
On the Halfords closure, Sally Strawbs wrote: “Thats sad! Good pisition and popular place!” Braden Ecroyd agreed: “Halfords needs to stay as it’s a useful shop for people’s everyday basic motoring needs.”

The firm operates round 370 to 400 retail shops across the UK, as well as nearly 500 garages and autocentres for repairs and MOTs .
