Egis has appointed the leader for its new environmental consultancy practice in the UK.
The global engineering giant, which owns a number of British built environment firms, has hired Afshan Rasheed for the head of environment role.
The new service sits alongside Egis’ energy, water and transport teams, offering a specialist capability including environmental impact assessments and environmental services.
Rasheed previously spent 14 years at WSP’s UK business, culminating in a period as its head of sustainability advisory.
Joanne Moran, director of water, environment, energy transition and nuclear for Egis in the UK & Ireland, said: “This is a significant step for Egis in the UK. There is growing demand from clients for environmental expertise that is fully integrated with engineering and infrastructure delivery, not bolted on at the end.
“Afshan has spent her career doing exactly that and her leadership will be central to how we grow this capability. The green skills shortage is real, and we want Egis to be part of the answer.”
Rasheed added that the role “felt like the natural next step in my career” and that her focus was now on “growing the team in the UK so we can better support the increasing demand for environmental expertise across projects”.
In recent years the French-based Egis has acquired a number of British built environment businesses, including Scottish consultant Thomas & Adamson in 2024 and architectural practice Weston Williamson & Partners in 2022.
