AN ICONIC US car brand could be rowing back on a decision to relaunch in the UK, according to reports.

The car brand said last year that it would be back on UK roads soon; however, it is yet to make a firm commitment on a start date.

General Motors (GM) an American car manufacturer, is reconsidering its plan to relaunch Cadillac in the UK, Autocar has reported.

It comes after Pere Brugal, chief of GM Europe, told the news site last year that the brand would be re-entering “soon,” with plans to launch the Lyriq, which is a rival for the BMW iX5.

At the time, he called the UK “one of the [markets] that we’re focusing on” and explained that a launch was “coming close”.

But a year on, the company has only launched one dealer for right-hand-drive Cadillacs, which is located in Dublin, Ireland.

Meanwhile, the outlet said there are only 20 Cadillacs registered in the UK between July 2025 and March 2026 and the majority are EV models.

Customers can still buy left-hand drive Cadillac Escalades from a dealership in London.

A spokesperson told the outlet: “As the UK market and EV landscape continue to evolve rapidly with new competitors emerging, we are actively reviewing our future Cadillac plans to ensure they remain aligned with market conditions and customer demand, and we will continue to assess future opportunities accordingly.”

In the past, the SUV-style motor has struggled to make it in the UK market, with attempts across 1998, 2007 and 2010.
