Labor AI policy: New regulations for data centres and copyright protection for Australian creators

The Albanese government will force large-scale data centres to generate as much power as they take from the grid and minimise water usage to keep household bills from rising and is also exploring a new copyright solution designed for artificial intelligence training.

In a landmark speech at the University of Sydney titled AI in Australia’s interests, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reversed Labor’s hands-off approach to AI regulation by announcing new legislated Australian AI standards, and a new Office of AI within his own department.
