The product is allegedly a new type of computer featuring no screen, but does tap into some of ChatGPT’s features.

OpenAI is reportedly working on a new type of AI home computer device that features no screen, but does have a speaker. It will allegedly connect with other devices on a user’s home network and become a more personalized experience as it learns about said user via various sensors.

On July 14, 2026, Bloomberg reported that OpenAI is working on a device that integrates its ChatGPT features into a screenless speaker, according to people in the know. The device is supposedly designed as a new type of home computer for the “AI era.” The product will allegedly connect with home appliances, play media, answer questions, and utilize various aspects of ChatGPT.

The report goes on to suggest that the device will become more personalized as users interact with it. The people familiar with the matter said it would have a camera and sensors, and notes that a “central difference” is that it “includes a rechargeable battery, allowing it to be carried from room to room throughout the day.” Laptops, mobile phones, and speaker units like Alexa traditionally have rechargeable batteries and can also be carried easily between rooms.

Just last week, Apple (AAPL) sued OpenAI over alleged stolen trade secrets related to hardware and security. “OpenAI’s nascent hardware business now rests on the shakiest of foundations,” Apple’s statement reads. “Rotten to its core by its illegal reliance on misappropriated trade secrets.” OpenAI’s entire business is operating on using other people’s work to train its models, with the company admitting that it would be impossible to train AI models without using copyrighted materials.

Stay tuned to hear more about OpenAI’s unannounced AI device and how it’s markedly different from the other devices currently on the market. Find more info on this AI bubble on our Artificial Intelligence page.
