Best car air conditioning revealed as heatwave scorches the UK – not Ford or Audi

Share

The best car air conditioning system has been revealed, with popular vehicles such as Ford and Audi not making the top of the list. BMW was instead found to be the best on the road at keeping drivers cool in the hot weather, with the German brand’s 2 Series model topping the standings.

The news could be crucial this week, with road users set to boil in an eye-watering 38C heatwave over the next few days. The findings come after new data from Auto Express’ Driver Power survey was exclusively shared with Express.co.uk.

The study, which gathers the views of more than 100,000 UK drivers, found that the BMW Series 2 offers the best heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, with an approval rating of 92.06%.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Steve Walker, Head of Digital Content at Auto Express, stressed that air con quality can vary depending on vehicles.

Steve said: “Almost every new car on sale today has air-conditioning and as drivers we almost take it for granted, but there are definitely good and bad systems in terms of performance, usability and even noise levels.

“According to the Driver Power survey results, owners of the BMW 2 Series are certainly happy with the air-con on their cars, and it’s important that we all pay attention to what’s coming out of the vents in our vehicles.

“The system and its filters will be checked when cars are serviced, but any drop-off in performance in terms of increased time to cool the cabin or extra noise at high fan speeds is worth investigating and getting fixed. Nobody wants to wind up in a heatwave driving a car that isn’t as cool as it could be.”

The electric Tesla Model 3 was next, with an air conditioning satisfaction score of 89.58%, followed by the Ford Kuga at 89.55% and Tesla Model Y at 89.08%.

The Hyundai Tucson was next with a score of 89.01%, followed by the Audi A4, which also scored 89.01%.
