Amazon expands music tech scheme to equip 30 UK schools

Amazon, in partnership with the charity Restore the Music UK (RTM), has expanded its Amazon x RTM Music Tech Award to equip 30 schools with fully equipped music technology studios.

The programme aims to provide young people with hands-on experience in music production, DJing and sound engineering using the same professional-grade tools found in the modern music industry.

Laura Lukanz, head of music UK/ANZ at Amazon Music, said: “Giving young people the chance to experience the transformative power of music, no matter where they live or the resources available at their school, is so important.

“For too many young people, that chance simply doesn’t exist. We want to change that. This year, we’re expanding our partnership with the charity Restore the Music UK.

“Alongside musical instruments, we’re bringing complete music technology studios into thirty schools across London, Manchester, Birmingham and Newcastle, giving young people access to the same professional-grade tools today’s artists, producers, DJs and creators use, helping give the next generation the opportunity to learn, create and be inspired.”

Now in its second year, the programme has already delivered modern music technology and instruments to more than 30 schools nationwide.

The equipment, donated by Amazon with support from leading music tech brands, includes studio microphones, audio interfaces, headphones, monitors, DJ controllers and recording software.

Schools can apply for the award by outlining their individual needs to Restore the Music UK, ensuring each studio is tailored to the school’s requirements.

The scheme supports the Government’s Turn It Up campaign, which seeks to expand music education and opportunities for young people across the UK. It is also part of Amazon’s wider efforts to nurture emerging talent through initiatives such as the Amazon Regional Creatives Fund and the Step Up Fund.
