UK used car dealership collapses into liquidation after 22 years

A second hand card dealership based in the UK has been “wound up” with the business liquidated just days into February. Glynn Andrews Car Sales Limited, a dealership based in Widnes, Cheshire, has ceased trading in another blow to the car industry at the start of 2026. 

The dealership, located on Liverpool Road in Widnes, called for a meeting of its creditors on January 23. The meeting was set to include a “resolution specifying the terms on which the liquidators are to be remunerated”, and to approve the costs of preparing the statement of affairs. However, the business appointed its liquidators on February 6, with a winding up order processed the exact same day.

According to The London Gazette, the report reads: “Notice is given that at a General Meeting of the Company, duly convened and held at the place and on the date given above, a special resolution was passed that the company be wound up voluntarily; and an ordinary resolution was passed appointing the Joint Liquidators for the purposes of the winding-up.”

Glynn Andrews is said to have applied for a Creditors Voluntary Liquidation, usually a voluntary insolvency process where directors choose to wind up affairs after being unable to pay back debts. 

This is when directors, rather than creditors, initiate the liquidation process, but this must be agreed by at least 75% of shareholders. The move is seen as a more proactive decision which can minimise creditor losses if a brand is pushed later down the line. 

As of Friday morning, Glynn Andrews had appeared to have taken down its website and social media pages. Those heading to their website were met with a simple four word message, simply reading “site down for maintenance”.

The business is a family run company that has been established for over 22 years, with the firm first incorporated back in January 2004. 

According to Companies House, Glynn Andrews was overdue on its accounts, which should have been submitted by 3 January 2026. As well as sales, the business had to offer a dedicated service centre for general repairs and maintenance.

The business had appeared to be well received by shoppers, with shoppers praising the centre for delivering “high standards” and good customer services.

One customer, Joanne, posted online: “[They] responded to enquiry quickly. Really friendly, highly knowledgeable and helpful service. Bought a great first car for my son. Would highly recommend.”

Another added: “Spoke with Victor on the phone and asked him for a video of the vehicle, which he sent me within the hour. He was very polite and easy to talk to. I wouldn’t be put off by the distance to go and see him if he had a car I was interested in. Highly recommend.”
