This AI company now has more robots than human workers

Share

It has happened. After months of debate over AI and robots potentially taking over human jobs, one AI company claims to have more robots than human employees at one company – Figure AI. That is, Figure AI now employs fewer humans than robots, and seems to have no plans of slowing down.

On X, Figure AI CEO Brett Adcock announced this major change in his company’s workforce with a graph. He wrote, “For the first time, robots now outnumber humans at Figure.”

Robots joining faster than humans

The graph, titled “Headcount vs Robots”, tracks the two figures from 2022 to 2026. During this period, robot numbers remained almost flat and close to zero until the first quarter of 2025. However, as soon as the company started manufacturing robots, the number rose sharply, crossing 100 before the end of 2025 and reaching roughly 740 by the second quarter 2026.

Brett Adcock shared the graph on X.

Human headcount, meanwhile, rose steadily from near zero in 2022 to about 400 by the end of 2025, before climbing more sharply to around 650 to 660 in 2026. That is, robots are joining Figure AI at a much faster pace than human employees. And if the chart trajectory is to be believed, there may be no signs of slowing down.

In a separate post, Adcock shared an image of dozens of humanoid robots in boxes, and wrote, “Power On.”

Figure AI’s announcement comes at a time when more and more companies are moving towards automation and AI. Companies like Amazon and Meta have laid off thousands of workers as they focus more on AI. As per layoffs.fyi, roughly 119,462 workers have lost their jobs at tech companies globally so far this year.

On the other hand, tech trillionaire Elon Musk has hinted that with more humanoid robots, humanity may achieve “amazing abundance for all.”

What is Figure AI?

Figure AI is a robotics startup that went viral a few weeks ago. The company had put up its Figure 03 robot against an intern in an 8-hour shift to sort packages in a “Man vs Machine” contest.

While the intern managed to defeat the robot, Brett Adcock had warned that it was going to be the last human victory against robots. He said at the time, “This is the last time a human will ever win.”

Figure AI is one of many robotic startups out there. Elon Musk’s Tesla has been working on the Optimus robot for some time now, with plans to deploy it commercially in the near future. On the other hand, Chinese firms like Unitree and Agibot have also made rapid progress.
