Dawesome Myth 1.81: free update adds 13 new effects to the machine-learning resynthesizer plugin

Share

Dawesome Myth is a new Synthesizer plugin (macOS/Windows) with a modular-style engine that takes you on a machine learning-supported resynthesis journey.

More than two years ago, Dawesome released the fascinating Mynth Synthesizer plugin, which utilizes machine-learning-assisted resynthesis.

Instead of traditional raw oscillators, the synth uses resynthesized audio files that can be transformed using different principles. They are then visualized as two irises.

Update 1.81

Now, all Myth users have a good reason to return to the synth again. Dawesome has dropped Myth 1.81, a free update that adds new welcome sound design features.

Myth 1.81 adds 13 new effects processors to the existing FXs in the effects rack: maximizer, limiter, compressor, split EQ, dual delay, reverse delay, tape, pulse gate, mal-sync, plate reverb, brute, gate, and auto pan.

As a bonus, it comes with 57 new presets to check out. It also includes minor changes, like a preset dialog that replaces the preset quick access menu.

Great to see that Myth is getting some love. For me, it’s one of the most underrated synths to have appeared in the last 2–3 years.

Dawesome Myth 1.81 is out now as a free update for existing users. Myth is now available for 107,40€ instead of 179€ on the official website. It’s also available at Audio Deluxe and Plugin Boutique.

Update from November 1, 2024

Great news from Peter at Dawesome: Myth 1.5 is out, bringing a major free update to its unique Re-Synthesizer plugin.

The new version introduces an all-new V2 re-synthesis algorithm designed to stay faithful to the original sample while preserving MYTH’s signature creative flexibility.

Dawesome says the new algorithm delivers clean, accurate, and expressive re-synthesis. The update also adds more than 200 presets showcasing the new synthesis options, bringing the total to over 900 built-in sounds.

A very welcome update, and thanks for making it a free update.

The new Dawesome Myth 1.5 update is free of charge for existing customers. To celebrate this release, Myth is on a special 50% OFF sale ($89,50 instead of $179) until November 16, 2024. It’s available at Plugin Boutique.

Article from April 18, 2024

AI is the topic of all topics. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are everywhere, from consumer technology to music tech. AI can create entire tracks, clone voices, and generate images… I’m pretty sure AI and machine learning will also play a major role in the synthesizer world.

As some of you know, I’m a big fan of Peter from Dawesome and his developments. They’re innovative and unique, and stand out from the crowd in both concept and sound. Dawesome is also exploring machine learning with its new synthesizer plugin, Myth. Oh, and don’t worry—it’s not an AI synth!

Dawesome Myth

Myth is a new Synthesizer plugin—more precisely, a resynthesizer. Its engine doesn’t rely on classic oscillators with static waves.

Instead, it uses two resynthesized audio files, visualized as an iris. Advanced machine learning supports the resynthesis process to deliver the best results.

You can create these files by dragging and dropping audio into the corresponding oscillator slots. The engine then transforms the audio into a wide range of sonic variations. From there, explore the oscillators with the transformer dials.

Transformers let you shape or bend the resynthesized sample using several different principles. For example, brass, saw, string, and square transformers process the audio as if it had been created using those methods.

Because you can load all sorts of audio, the sound spectrum is virtually infinite compared to classic oscillators. You can also modify the playhead, add various types of FM, explore orbit modulation, and more.

Modular Synth

Below, you can explore the second part of the Myth engine. It offers the flexibility of a modular synth without the mess of cables.

Here, you can add oscillators and work with virtual analog filters, effects, and more. Its linear, left-to-right workflow reminds me of a pedalboard.

This section also features interesting sound shapers, modulators, and effects. For example, it includes resonators you can train by dropping in a sample, giving you an acoustic resonator with its own unique sound. Effects include a phaser, cloud reverb, delay, granulator, and more.

The modulation engine is packed with advanced LFOs, envelopes, and MIDI effects. You also get an arpeggiator.

Peter of Dawesome has also implemented a sophisticated randomization system to make sound design easier and more convenient. For example, you can freeze sections to keep them unchanged or try your resynthesized sample in other patches—like putting a dress over them, as Peter says.

Myth supports full MPE and MTS-ESP, covering all your expressive needs. The plugin comes with over 700 presets from more than 10 sound designers and artists. That’s a lot to explore.

Every new synthesizer release comes with plenty of marketing blah blah about how the instrument makes everything better. Don’t worry, that’s the case here too, but there’s some truth to it.

Like Novum and Kult, Myth is another welcome addition to the world of synth plugins from Peter at Dawesome. It’s unique, different, and fun to use.

I’d need to test it to see how far you can go sonically, but the first sound demos are already sounding very organic and fat.

Tracktion is distributing Dawesome Myth, which is now available for an introductory price of 119€ instead of 169€. It runs as a 64-bit only VST3 and AU plugin on macOS (native Apple Silicon + Intel) and Windows.
