London firm Global Sustainable Buildings Consultancy has bought rival Cudd Bentley for an undisclosed sum.

The firm, which is backed by UK private equity business Ansor, said the deal for the building services firm takes the number of staff at GSBC-owned businesses to more than 200 and collective turnover to over £20m.

Cudd Bentley was set up in 1978 and focusses on building services engineering and sustainability work across the education, healthcare, heritage, commercial, industrial, residential and public sectors.

It is based in Berkshire but also has offices in London, Manchester and Southampton.

GSBC said the deal would strengthen its “capability in complex engineering, retrofit and decarbonisation, while significantly increasing the group’s geographic reach”.

GSBC has already built up a portfolio of firms with several acquisitions, including engineers ESD and Qoda Consulting, with Cudd Bentley its largest to date.

Stephen Hawkins, chief corporate development officer of GSBC, said: “By bringing together leading specialist consultancies while preserving the identity and culture that make each business successful, we’re creating a consultancy group that is genuinely greater than the sum of its parts.

“Cudd Bentley will continue to operate under its established brand, retaining its leadership team, culture and client relationships.”
