BYD has revealed that its new Ti7 SUV will be arriving in the UK market this Summer to give the likes of Land Rover some stern competition.

Production of the Ti7 started in Summer 2025 and is available in other markets, only badged as BYD’s sub brand, Fangchengbao. It’s powered by two electric motors teamed with a 1.5 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing up to a combined 483hp. 0-62 takes just 4.8 seconds, which is quicker than the 5.0 litre fire-breathing Land Rover Defender V8.

BYD calls it the DM-p powertrain and the Ti7 will be the first car in the UK to be offered with it. The total combined WLTP driving range of the Ti7 is 710km – or 441 miles, with up to 79 miles of EV-only range. Really, it’s an electric vehicle with a range extender, and these are hugely popular in the Chinese market.

As for size, it sits between the length of a Land Rover Defender 110 and 130 at 5.1 metres long, firmly placing the Ti7 into the firing line of the hugely competitive family SUV segment. It even has seven seats for added practicality.

The exterior styling clearly resembles existing iconic off-road cars to give the Ti7 a rugged, tough look. Climbing inside, you’re greeted with a huge infotainment screen paired with a modern, crisp-looking dashboard. It’s all very conventional in a car of this type and the Ti7 is clearly aiming to compete with the Western brands.

Pricing and final specifications will be announced in the coming weeks, but we expect BYD to undercut the Defender and Discovery as well as the likes of the Volvo XC90 and BMW X5.
